In the start of times, before all that has occurred since, The Wanderer walked the void. He wore naught but his cloak. Lonely and tired he was doomed to travel the nothingness. Until one day he stumbled upon a baby holding an unlit lamp in its hand. The baby was curled around the lamp and lay upon the void. The Wanderer was scared and he stopped before the infant. For this was Benu. Greatest and most powerful of all beings. Bringer of light and crafter of worlds was this child. The Wanderer saw all this as the Wanderer is all seeing and knows all that has passed and all that will come. He saw the fate of all things and he wept. For he saw such beauty and pain and all of Benu’s great mind and ideas were laid out in their magnificence. The Wanderer then being the only one besides Benu to be existent before time itself created his wife The Lady of the Stars. These two charged themselves with the upbringing of Benu and the teaching of so great a being. The Wanderer and The Lady of the Stars were happy with Benu, they lived in the dark and void but they were content. Until one day The Lady grew pregnant. The Wanderer, overjoyed by the news, took Benu’s lamp and lit the singular candle inside. Benu screamed and being now in the form of a young adult, attacked the Wanderer and tried to put the flame out.
“You fool!” cried Benu as he tore the lamp away, “Now the candle will forever be shorter than it was. Only for so long can light exist in this world and I was not yet ready to waste any of it, for my designs require all that it has to offer.”
The Wanderer oldest and wisest of beings looked into Bénu’s future and saw that it had changed. What once had been the perfection and everlasting beauty of life had become shorter and darker. The Wanderer then realizing his utter humiliation fell into a deep trance-like state where he whispered to Benu all that had been and all that would come. In those moments Benu became the form that he is pictured today. The king of the gods finally looked like it. Benu, now more powerful than any being that had been or has yet to be, locked the Wanderer away in a cage and kept him there until he had need of him in his plans. The Lady of the Stars wept and begged for the release of her husband. Benu ignored her cries and walked into the void to begin his machinations.
An ageless time passed it seemed for the Lady of the Stars but eventually her labor came. In a moment of great thunder and the very foundations of existence trembled she gave birth to twin daughters. Gazing upon her two children she wept for they were beyond beautiful. The first daughter born she named Liliana, first-born, giver of life. The second she named Yalowyn, the final child, the end. The two daughters would be closer than any other siblings to ever exist for they relied upon one another deeply. Blessed with immortal life, alike to their parents, they wandered together through the void and wondered upon their purpose in the tale of the world.
(Possible extension of their journeys and wanderings-developing of their skills/becoming close)
Yet they had not long to wonder. Benu, almighty and all knowing, had a purpose for them and decided to set upon them their first test. Liliana and Yalowyn, both of them possessing powers that if left unchecked could develop to rival Benu himself, were able to create and destroy as they wished. Yet Liliana was the only one who would build and give life to things while Yalowyn was only able to undo and bring death and ending to all things. For years they learned to coexist and that both of their gifts were special and necessary to the tale of the world. One day when they were sitting upon a hill of grass Liliana had made, Yalowyn was slowly burning the blades with a finger. Liliana saw herself reflected in the flames, then thought of water. The most beautiful of her creations at that point she wove the liquid like an old lady with a quilt. Each ripple and gurgle she knitted from the void. The light from the eternal lamp sparkled upon the reflective surface. The first water was woven from the void of the world and is said it was as clear as the air around us and as cool and refreshing as the oldest and finest wines from our mortal world. Benu then revealed to Liliana the tale of the world in her water. From her creation and her own making she would be the guardian of all that lives. The tale of woven water would in its words show Liliana the fate of the world and give her powers to be Benu’s most powerful aide. Yalowyn saw these happenings and was displeased. Jealousy and anger filled her heart as she felt that, while Liliana was full of beauty and all that was joyful and happy in the world, all she brought was sadness and death. Yalowyn rounded on her sister and turned her beautiful water into boiling steam that burned Liliana.
“Yalowyn! I was not yet finished with that creation. It was perfect, perhaps it is possible to not destroy all things.” Liliana yelled and clutched at her throbbing hand. Yalowyn stared at Liliana, her golden eyes alight with a cold fury. With inhuman speed she grabbed Liliana about the neck and held her.
“That is what you desire is it not? Dear sister I am the goddess of death, the final child. I cannot yet alter the way of the world and yet Benu sees fit to bestow you with powers you have no idea how to control or use.” She tightened her grip on Liliana’s as her sister’s hands clawed at her arms. “Even now I could kill you and bring an end to all life and happiness, all would wither and die and I would have dominion over all things.” As Liliana felt herself being corrupted by death and being pulled by her sister into the darkness of Yalowyn’s dark kingdom, a great blast of light flung both her and her sister to the ground.
“My sweet daughters, long have you toiled in harmony. Why upon this of such a beautiful discovery does it find cause for such violent discord?” The Lady of the Stars stood upon the crest of the hill and looked down upon the sisters and spoke to them. “You have set yourself against Liliana, Yalowyn. Yet you do not realize in this moment that you will have need of her forever anon.” Yalowyn looked upon her mother with mirth as she thought that she was taking Liliana’s side. Yalowyn got to her feet and started towards her mother.
“You have chosen a daughter, oh dearest mother. Thou have taken a side when you were supposed to love us equally.” She turned on her heel and brought a dagger from the void and swung to plunge it into her sister's heart. But instead she found her dark steel sticking from the bosom of her mother. The Lady of the Stars had hidden Liliana away to heal and had sent her to Benu to be cared for. But she had been mortally wounded and Yalowyn knew her mistake and wept for the loss of her mother for all rage and clouded judgement was gone from her mind.
“I am sorry Yalowyn, I only wish you had seen the way of the world instead of setting yourself upon this path that you now cannot yet steer from. I love you and your sister. Do not attempt to write the tale of woven water my sweet child, destiny is known to few and those who do not know should rejoice for life is bliss and death is freedom.” The Lady took a final breath, and with her exhale her body was lifted from the hill and into the heavens and shattered into an endless scattering of stars. Yalowyn watched her mother become the shimmering heavens and a single tear escaped her brilliant eyes that now pooled with sadness and an underlying guilt.
“Forgive me.” Yalowyn whispered. She lay upon the sweet grass, that her sister had built, and wept.
Benu came many months later. With him came Liliana greater and more powerful than ever before yet now she bore a left hand that was forever red from the steam of the first ever woven water. The two great beings coming was like a hurricane, great winds and a storm of lightning accompanied them. Great storm clouds were their heralds as they trumpeted the arrival of the two. Yalowyn awoke from her depressed slumber and looked upon her sister and her king and knew she was at their mercy, completely.
“My sister you have caused me great pain and grief. Thou have stolen our mother from us and taken from the world the kindest and most caring women we have ever known. Yet I will not hold anger towards you nor harbor any feelings of resentment or mistreatment as I believe you will know your own suffering far more than I can ever cause.” Liliana walked to her sister and helped her to her feet. Then Benu spoke for the first time to Yalowyn.
“You have caused a ripple in the water young child. Yet you still hold a place within this tale of our world. I must punish those who alter my plans and see themselves as more important than others. You will be the Queen of your own world. Separate from your sister you shall guard the dead and keep all that is dark and strange of this world. You will have power yet you shall never rival your sister nor will life ever look at you with love and wonder as they look upon Liliana.” With that he banished her to the world of her own where she has been since.
The Wanderer was finally evicted from his eternal prison and was given the, now fully lit, Lamp of Benu. The Wanderer took the lamp and he searched for millennia for his beautiful life. Millions of lifetimes passed as he stumbled through the darkness, searching. Great worlds and projects of Benu were built and destroyed, grew old and crumbled, flourished and drowned. All this while the Wanderer searched. But he could not find that which he desired most in this world. For The Lady was gone, killed in the conflict between Liliana and Yalowyn. She had sacrificed herself to save Liliana and therefore life itself and had been broken asunder into billions of pieces that now floated in the heavens of the world. The Lady was no longer a physical being but was all around surrounding the world with her protection. Yet ever after she adorned the sky, the Wanderer would come every day and cross the heavens in search for her only to miss her as soon as the goddess Desara brought the moon into the heavens and her light and the Lady’s stars illuminated the world.
